Speedy Sums

Mental Maths Practice

Speedy Sums is a free mental maths game. You answer as many sums as you can before the clock runs out, then try to beat your score. It works on phones, tablets and computers, with no sign-up needed to play.

What you can practise

You can mix any of these together, at four levels of difficulty.

Why practise against the clock

Mental maths is a skill, and skills improve with short, focused repetition. A timer turns practice into a game with a clear goal: one more than last time. Because each round is only 30 to 120 seconds, it is easy to fit in every day, which matters far more than how long each session lasts.

A new challenge every day

The daily challenge gives everyone the same set of sums for the day, with one attempt each and a shared leaderboard. There are also three ranked challenges you can play as often as you like: Sprint, Times Tables and Brain Burner. Ranked play needs a free account so the leaderboards stay fair; everything else does not.

Getting better, quickly

Speed comes from a handful of techniques used again and again. Our guide to mental maths tricks covers the ones worth knowing, and mental maths for kids has advice for parents and teachers.
